Project Progress: 100%
Research Directions:
Fish nutrition and feeding
Fish health
Fish quality and safety
Description:
The aim of the proposed research is to examine the possibility of mass production of insect and micro-algae species for future industrial exploitation and to explore the possibility of partial replacement of fishmeal and fish oil in sea bream and sea bass diets. A total number of 3 research bodies comprised of staff from 6 research laboratories will collaborate to the project, which will be implemented in 5 work packages including the creation of protocols for the mass production of insects and micro-algae, the evaluation of their nutritional composition and the conduct of a series of dietary experiments with sea bream and seabass to assess the use of these raw materials in growth, feed utilization, health, nutritional value and organoleptic characteristics of fish.
