Ceratomyxosis was found in common dentex (Dentex dentex L.), a new cultured Sparidae species in Mediterranean mariculture. The cause of the disease appeared to be the myxosporean Ceratomyxa diplodae and C. labrakis with the first being more prevalent. Both coelozoic species were recovered from the bile and the intestinal mucosa without affecting other tissues, however, a possible disorder of the digestive functions may be the cause of the moderate emaciation and mortality of the fish.
